A FIGHT FOR JENNY

Cinemavixion Review

Gilbert Moses's "A Fight for Jenny" offers a poignant exploration of racial prejudice and the fierce maternal instinct. The film centers on Kelsey, whose remarriage to a Black man triggers a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband. The narrative masterfully navigates the complexities of societal bias intersecting with deeply personal stakes. Lesley Ann Warren delivers a compelling performance as Kelsey, embodying the desperation and resilience of a mother fighting for her child's well-being against a backdrop of bigotry. Philip Michael Thomas provides strong support, portraying a husband facing down intolerance with dignity. While its 1986 release date places it within a specific era of television filmmaking, the themes of discrimination and the enduring power of family resonate powerfully. The film serves as a compelling, albeit dramatic, examination of love and justice triumphing over hate.
