WILDLIFE ON THE MOUNTAIN: THE ALPINE ZOO STORY

Cinemavixion Review

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo, established in 1959 following a devastating wildfire, stands as a remarkable sanctuary dedicated to the rehabilitation and care of injured and orphaned wildlife. With an impressive success rate of returning 90% of its charges to their natural habitats, the zoo also provides expansive, naturalistic enclosures for animals unable to be released, fostering their innate behaviors such as climbing and hunting. This documentary offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the daily operations, from the arduous task of snow removal at dawn to the specialized care provided for iconic species like California condors and grizzlies. As the zoo prepares for a new, advanced facility, the film highlights the profound dedication, inventive spirit, and unwavering commitment that underscore the belief that every species deserves a chance to thrive.
