WILD AMERICA: PEOPLE OF THE BISON

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "WILD AMERICA: PEOPLE OF THE BISON," from 2024, helmed by Marty Stouffer, explores the profound historical and cultural relationship between the indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and the American bison. The narrative powerfully recounts the near extinction of these magnificent creatures due to European expansion and the subsequent, hopeful resurgence of bison populations, even returning to ancestral Native American lands. The film highlights the bison's role not just as a provider but as a sacred element in the cultural tapestry of the Plains tribes, whose lives and traditions were intricately woven with the presence of 'Tatonka'. It serves as a poignant reminder of a broken union and a testament to the resilience of nature and heritage.
