WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS

Cinemavixion Review

Waris Hussein's 'When the Bough Breaks' plunges viewers into a disquieting psychological thriller, anchored by a compelling performance from Ted Danson as Dr. Alex Delaware. The film masterfully weaves a narrative of repressed memories and sinister conspiracies, sparked by a psychiatrist's testimony that leads to a murder. Danson, alongside Richard Masur as a determined detective, navigates a labyrinth of power and violence, unraveling a case that extends far beyond a single death. The plot, adapted from Jonathan Kellerman's work, skillfully balances suspenseful investigation with moments of intense action, creating a gripping cinematic experience. While its 1986 release predates many modern thriller conventions, the film’s exploration of dark themes and its solid performances continue to resonate, offering a potent blend of crime drama and psychological suspense that rewards attentive viewing.
