WHEN NIETZSCHE WEPT

Cinemavixion Review

Pinchas Perry's "When Nietzsche Wept" offers a compelling intellectual drama, delving into the intricate relationship between Viennese physician Josef Breuer and the renowned philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The film masterfully navigates themes of despair, existential angst, and the therapeutic power of dialogue, drawing inspiration from Irvin D. Yalom's novel. Ben Cross and Armand Assante deliver nuanced performances, capturing the complexities of their characters' internal struggles and their evolving dynamic. While the film may not boast major accolades, its thoughtful exploration of profound philosophical concepts and its sensitive portrayal of mental anguish make it a worthy watch for those seeking cinema that engages the mind as much as the heart. The production effectively transports viewers to late 19th-century Vienna, providing a rich backdrop for this fascinating psychological journey.
