WHEN BLOOD TIES TURN DEADLY: FATHER AND DAUGHTER BEHIND BARS | SABRINA: DADDY'S GIRL | FULL DOC

Cinemavixion Review

This compelling documentary, "When Blood Ties Turn Deadly: Father and Daughter Behind Bars," delves into the harrowing true story of Louis and Sabrina van Schoor, a father and daughter who found themselves incarcerated simultaneously. Set against the backdrop of 1980s East London, South Africa, a time rife with crime and racial unrest, the film chronicles Louis's life as a security guard and the later conviction of his daughter, Sabrina, for a high-profile murder, resulting in a 25-year sentence. The documentary's most striking element is the revelation that father and daughter served time in the same correctional facility, albeit in different wings, until Louis's release in 2004. Through intimate interviews and archival footage, the film offers a profound exploration of justice, the enduring strength of family ties, inherited trauma, and the lasting impact of one's legacy across generations. It raises poignant questions about the nature of crime, punishment, and the complex dynamics within families facing extraordinary circumstances.
