WHAT HOLLYWOOD GETS WRONG ABOUT THE MAFIA: THE REALITY EXPLAINED

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a compelling deconstruction of the American Mafia, moving beyond the sensationalism often found in cinematic depictions. It meticulously traces the organization's origins from Southern Italian history, highlighting the complex interplay of foreign occupation, immigration, and economic factors that fueled its ascent in the United States. The narrative skillfully navigates the impact of Prohibition and widespread corruption, illustrating how these conditions fostered the growth of a powerful, nationwide syndicate with insidious reach into politics and commerce. Through a blend of historical analysis and what appear to be firsthand accounts, the film dissects the structure of La Cosa Nostra, the origins of its notorious code of silence, and its transformation from localized rackets into a vast, multibillion-dollar enterprise. It serves as a crucial corrective, contrasting the romanticized myth with the stark, often violent, reality of organized crime.
