WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE

Cinemavixion Review

Stacie Passon's adaptation of Shirley Jackson's "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" plunges viewers into a world of gothic mystery and psychological unease. Alexandra Daddario and Taissa Farmiga star as two sisters living in self-imposed exile within their ancestral manor, their isolation punctuated by the presence of their eccentric uncle, portrayed by Crispin Glover. The narrative gains momentum with the arrival of a distant cousin, played by Sebastian Stan, who acts as a catalyst for the unraveling of long-buried family secrets and a dark past shrouded in suspicion. The film masterfully captures the unsettling atmosphere of Jackson's beloved novel, exploring themes of paranoia, societal rejection, and the complex bonds of family, even as they are tested by tragedy and scandal.
