WARMED OVER KRAUTROCK

Cinemavixion Review

Mark Tompkins' "Warmed-Over Krautrock" offers a nostalgic, albeit somewhat melancholic, dive into the world of independent record stores and fading musical aspirations. Set in the vibrant Silver Lake district, the film centers on Walt, the proprietor of Essential Music, a man whose punk-rock glory days are a distant echo. He finds himself recounting past glories to his younger staff, including the enigmatic Lysette, the ambitious Chris, and the earnest music aficionado Duane. The narrative affectionately captures the obsessive nature of music lovers and the sometimes-trying dynamics within such specialized communities. While the film may resonate deeply with those who have ever found themselves lost in the labyrinth of playlists or encountered individuals consumed by musical minutiae, its comedic undertones are balanced by a palpable sense of wistful reflection on the passage of time and the evolution of taste. Jim Tavaré leads the cast with a performance that anchors the film's blend of humor and pathos.
