WAR ABOVE THE TRENCHES

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary plunges viewers into the nascent, brutal world of aerial combat during World War I. "War Above The Trenches" masterfully illustrates how, in the mere dozen years since humanity first took to the skies, aircraft transformed from fragile novelties into deadly instruments of war. The narrative compellingly details the evolution of these flying machines, from their crucial role as artillery spotters to the terrifying emergence of synchronized machine guns that turned pilots into airborne warriors. Through evocative use of diaries, letters, and rare footage, the series brings to life the immense bravery and sacrifice of the Royal Flying Corps and their allies. It unflinchingly depicts the grim realities of aerial battles over iconic WWI fronts and highlights the profound human cost, particularly on days like the Somme. This is an essential watch for understanding the dawn of a new era in warfare, defined by innovation, courage, and devastating loss.
