WALKING ACROSS AMERICA FOR LAUGHS: A STANDUP COMEDIAN’S BOLD JOURNEY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary follows Jessica Watkins, a budding stand-up comedian, as she embarks on an audacious cross-country walk from New York to the West Coast. Leaving behind a comfortable life, minimal hiking experience, and a hefty dose of optimism, Watkins sets out to promote her career and confront her past. Armed with a camera, camping gear, and a bottle of whiskey, her journey is documented through candid footage and intimate performances. The film captures the challenges of the road, including physical injury and unexpected encounters that dredge up painful memories of a past assault. As Watkins navigates six states, she grapples with healing, writing new material, and rediscovering faith in humanity. 'SPECIALish' offers a raw, humorous, and poignant exploration of one woman's quest for self-discovery and artistic fulfillment.
