VIRGINIA

Cinemavixion Review

Gilbert Le's "Virginia" offers a modern, poignant take on Mark Twain's classic narrative, transplanting the spirit of Huck Finn to the bustling, often unforgiving landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. The film centers on Virginia, a young girl left to navigate the complexities of life when her mother, Kelly, succumbs to addiction. The story unfolds during the holiday season, a stark contrast to the bleak circumstances Virginia faces as she's left in the care of Griffin. Anchored by the performances of Paige Hurd as the resilient Virginia and Godfrey as the enigmatic Griffin, the film delves into themes of abandonment, resilience, and the search for stability in a world that often feels adrift. "Virginia" is a compelling character study that resonates with its raw portrayal of childhood adversity and the enduring human spirit.
