毒 | VELENO

Cinemavixion Review

"Veleno" (Poison) is a gripping Italian drama set against the stark beauty of the Caserta countryside, where a middle-aged couple's life of raising buffaloes is threatened by the encroaching influence of the local mafia. Director Diego Olivares crafts a tense narrative that pits the resilience of ordinary people against the insidious power of organized crime. The film stars Massimiliano Gallo and Luisa Ranieri as the embattled couple, their performances imbued with a quiet desperation and fierce determination to protect their livelihood and their lives. Salvatore Esposito also features in a supporting role. While the film may not have garnered widespread international acclaim, it offers a potent commentary on the struggles faced by those in the path of criminal enterprises. "Veleno" is a stark reminder of the battles fought for land, dignity, and survival in certain regions of Italy, making it a compelling, albeit somber, watch.
