In "Vecchia volpe" (The Grey Fox), director Phillip Borsos crafts a poignant Canadian Western inspired by the true tale of Bill Miner, a legendary train robber. Released in 1982, the film stars Richard Farnsworth as Miner, a man emerging from a 30-year prison sentence in 1901 to find a world dramatically altered by time. Disoriented by this new era, Miner, a "the gentleman bandit," is drawn back to his old ways, inspired by the nascent cinematic medium. Yet, his pursuit of one last score becomes a romantic, albeit futile, race against the inevitable march of progress. The film, featuring Jackie Burroughs and Ken Pogue, is celebrated for its unique blend of historical drama and elegiac tone, capturing the twilight of the Old West with a filmmaker's eye for evocative imagery and a storyteller's heart for a captivating, if melancholic, legend.
