USE OF FORCE: THE POLICING OF BLACK AMERICA

Cinemavixion Review

In the landscape of urgent social documentaries, "Use of Force: The Policing of Black America" emerges as a critical examination of a deeply entrenched issue. Directed by Cary Grant Jr., this 2022 film confronts the persistent and tragic encounters between law enforcement and communities of color. The documentary unflinchingly chronicles the stories of victims such as George Floyd, Philando Castile, and Eric Garner, providing a platform for their narratives and the profound grief of their families. "Use of Force" does more than recount individual tragedies; it delves into the historical context of police-community relations, offering commentary from thought leaders and experts on the policies and tactics that shape these interactions. The film bravely tackles the complex and often fraught politics surrounding the use of deadly force in America, aiming to foster a deeper understanding and provoke necessary dialogue. While the film's IMDb rating of 5.4 suggests a mixed reception, its subject matter and the personal testimonies it highlights make it an essential, albeit somber, watch for anyone seeking to comprehend the ongoing struggle for justice and reform.
