UNDER THE INFLUENCER

Cinemavixion Review

In "Under the Influencer," director Alex Haughey offers a poignant, albeit familiar, look at the ephemeral nature of online fame. The film centers on a 25-year-old YouTube sensation whose decade-long reign at the top is threatened by fading relevance. As her follower counts dwindle and her engagement wanes, she's forced into a soul-searching journey to disentangle her curated online persona from her authentic self. The narrative deftly explores the anxieties of a generation tethered to digital validation, highlighting the struggle to find genuine connection in an increasingly disconnected world. While the premise might tread well-worn ground, the film's strength lies in its relatable portrayal of this modern dilemma, reminding audiences that sometimes, logging off is the surest way to log in to oneself. With a solid performance from Taylor Joree Scorse, "Under the Influencer" serves as a timely commentary on identity and authenticity in the digital age.
