Cinemavixion Review

Gian Luigi Polidoro's "Una Moglie Americana" (also known as "Run for Your Wife") from 1965 presents a darkly comedic take on the pursuit of happiness and marital dissatisfaction. The film follows Riccardo, a discontented Italian shoe factory worker, who, during a brief business trip to America, is advised by his affluent friend Carlo to marry a rich American woman to escape his own unhappy marriage. With a mere four days to achieve this improbable goal, Riccardo embarks on a frantic search across the United States. His quest leads him to a promising encounter with a charming young woman, but their budding romance is complicated by the interference of her determined ex-husband. Ultimately, Riccardo returns to Italy, only to find that an unhappy fate, much like the one he tried to escape, awaits him in the form of his own wife. Starring Ugo Tognazzi, Rhonda Fleming, and Graziella Granata, the film blends satire with a touch of the absurd, exploring themes of cultural displacement, economic disparity, and the often-comical desperation that drives human relationships.
