TUTANKHAMUN: THE GREATEST ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY OF ALL TIME

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a compelling journey into the heart of one of history's most significant archaeological finds: the tomb of Tutankhamun. Hosted by Dan Snow, the film meticulously retraces the steps of Howard Carter, marking the centenary of his groundbreaking discovery. Snow's exploration takes viewers from the dusty plains of Egypt, where Carter's lifelong dedication culminated in the momentous "Tomb Found" entry, to the historic sites themselves, including Tutankhamun's tomb and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The narrative is enriched by insights from conservator Eid Murtah. Further depth is added through visits to Highclere Castle, the ancestral home of Lord Carnarvon, and Oxford, where Carter's extensive archives are preserved. Snow examines Carter's original journals and glass plate negatives in the Bodleian Weston Library and Oxford's Griffith Archive, revealing intimate details of the tomb's initial discovery, adorned with floral tributes. The documentary beautifully humanizes the story, highlighting the meticulous work of the archaeological team and the enduring legacy of the young pharaoh.
