TURN BACK TIME: THE FAMILY - THE EDWARDIAN ERA

Cinemavixion Review

This installment of 'Turn Back Time: The Family' plunges viewers into the Edwardian era, offering a stark look at the societal strata of early 20th-century Britain. The series compellingly contrasts the experiences of three distinct families as they navigate the era's rigid social structures and economic realities. The Meadows family's transition to working-class life provides a visceral exploration of poverty and the pressures of being breadwinners, challenging their modern sensibilities. Meanwhile, the Taylor family's immersion in an upper-middle-class existence highlights the stifling formality and strict etiquette that defined such households, particularly affecting the mother's sense of identity. The Golding family's struggle to maintain their precarious middle-class standing offers a nuanced perspective on social ambition and the application of discipline. Through these varied lenses, the program offers a vivid and often poignant depiction of a pivotal historical period.
