TRACKING DOWN MAGGIE

Cinemavixion Review

Nick Broomfield's "Tracking Down Maggie" offers a fascinating, albeit frustrating, glimpse into the elusive world of Margaret Thatcher. This 1994 documentary, directed by Broomfield himself, chronicles his persistent, almost obsessive, pursuit of an interview with the former Prime Minister. What unfolds is less a direct confrontation and more a masterclass in evasion, as Thatcher, or her representatives, consistently elude Broomfield's camera. The film excels in capturing the behind-the-scenes machinations and the sheer difficulty of penetrating the public facade of the 'Iron Lady'. While not providing the direct access Broomfield sought, the documentary succeeds in revealing character through absence and avoidance, making it a compelling study of power, privacy, and the art of the political dodge.
