Cinemavixion Review

In "Tooken," director John Asher presents a darkly comedic, albeit somewhat convoluted, take on the action-revenge genre. Lee Tergesen stars as Bryan Miller, an ex-CIA operative whose life has devolved into a series of personal and professional indignities, punctuated by a bizarre mid-life crisis. The narrative weaves together elements of marital strife, paternal alienation, and a desperate search for virility, all while Miller finds himself entangled in a dangerous plot. Tergesen navigates the film's tonal shifts with a commendable commitment, embodying Miller's descent into a violent, albeit accidental, vigilante. While the film may falter in its pacing and narrative cohesion, it offers a unique, if unpolished, exploration of masculine anxieties and the absurdity of modern life. The supporting cast, including Reno Wilson and Lauren Stamile, provides solid performances that anchor the more outlandish plot developments.
