TO HELL WITH HARVEY

Cinemavixion Review

Liv Collins' 2019 Canadian film, "To Hell With Harvey," offers a poignant exploration of artistic aspiration and mentorship, anchored by strong performances and a resonant narrative. The film follows Greg Gifford, a recent high school graduate and budding writer whose dreams of creative writing program acceptance are met with repeated rejection. His path takes an unexpected turn when an instructor suggests he assist the reclusive and once-celebrated author, Harvey McCoy, on his comeback winter book tour. What unfolds is a compelling road movie across the starkly beautiful rural landscape of Ontario. As Greg and Harvey embark on their tumultuous journey, they seek not only inspiration for Harvey's new book but also a deeper sense of acceptance and personal redemption. The dynamic between the eager, inexperienced Greg and the jaded, enigmatic Harvey forms the heart of the film, providing opportunities for both conflict and profound connection. "To Hell With Harvey" has been recognized with at least one award, hinting at its critical reception. While specific box office details are not widely publicized, the film's narrative depth and character-driven approach suggest a thoughtful piece of independent cinema. It's a journey that resonates with anyone who has ever pursued a creative passion against daunting odds, making it a worthy watch for aspiring artists and seasoned readers alike.
