Cinemavixion Review

Lowell Sherman's 1932 offering, "Three Broadway Girls," presents a glittering, yet cynical, glimpse into the lives of ambitious young women navigating the opulent social landscape of New York. The film centers on three determined gold diggers, brought to life with vivacity by Ina Claire, Joan Blondell, and Madge Evans. Dressed in the finest Chanel gowns, they embark on a quest for wealthy husbands, a pursuit framed with a playful, almost mischievous, "monkey business" undertone. The narrative explores themes of aspiration, societal expectations, and the transactional nature of relationships in a bygone era. Sherman, who also appears in the film, imbues the production with a sharp wit and a keen eye for the era's stylish excesses. It's a charming, if somewhat dated, portrayal of a particular brand of showgirl hustle.
