THESE FOOLISH THINGS

Cinemavixion Review

Set against the evocative backdrop of pre-World War II England, "These Foolish Things" unfolds as a compelling drama of ambition and entangled affections. The film masterfully explores the intertwined lives of a young actress, a visionary director, and a driven playwright, each yearning for their moment in the spotlight. Director Julia Taylor-Stanley crafts a poignant narrative that captures the era's burgeoning artistic scene and the personal sacrifices often demanded by the pursuit of fame. The performances are nuanced, drawing the audience into the characters' emotional complexities and their shared dreams. While the external data points to a 2006 release, the core story resonates with timeless themes of love, art, and the precariousness of aspiration in a world teetering on the brink of monumental change. This is a thoughtfully rendered portrait of creative striving and the human heart's enduring capacity for connection.
