THEATRE OF THE UNDYING

Cinemavixion Review

Costas Zapas's 'Theatre of the Undying' is a fascinating dive into the liminal space between performance and reality. Set in a quiet town, the narrative follows a young reporter drawn into the orbit of a peculiar theatre troupe staging 'Frankenstein.' What begins as a journalistic assignment morphs into a surreal investigation as the lines between the novel's fiction and the troupe's reality blur. The film masterfully weaves a chilling theory that Mary Shelley's classic might be a historical document, a coded account of immortal alchemists, with Victor Frankenstein himself at their helm. This Greek thriller is a compelling blend of Gothic horror and existential mystery, probing themes of love, myth, and the precarious nature of identity. It poses a disquieting question: in a world where the past refuses to stay buried, can anyone truly escape the echoes of the undying?
