THE WOODSMAN

Cinemavixion Review

Nicole Kassell's 'The Woodsman' offers a stark and unflinching look at the arduous journey of a convicted sex offender attempting to reintegrate into society. Kevin Bacon delivers a performance of profound restraint and quiet desperation as Walter, a man haunted by his past and navigating a world that offers little room for redemption. The film masterfully explores themes of isolation, the struggle for normalcy, and the pervasive fear of relapse. Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) provides a grounded presence as a sympathetic coworker, and Kyra Sedgwick adds layers to Walter's fraught family dynamics. Despite its difficult subject matter, 'The Woodsman' is a powerful character study, bolstered by a compelling narrative and sensitive direction that earned it critical acclaim, including a significant 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
