THE WAR ON REFORMATION: ROMAN INQUISITION | PARABLE FULL EPISODE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the complex history of the Roman Inquisition, painting a vivid picture of Venice in 1522 as a hub for the burgeoning Protestant Reformation and its associated banned literature. The narrative skillfully outlines the Church's strategic response, establishing a new, Pope-controlled Inquisition aimed at curbing the spread of competing religious ideas and suppressing dissent. The film highlights the profound impact of this institution on the flow of information, particularly the new ideas disseminated by the printing press, and its role in stifling early modern scientific thought. It frames the Inquisition as a significant campaign in the centuries-long battle for the spiritual landscape of Europe, noting the eventual opening of the Vatican's Holy Office archives in 1998 after centuries of secrecy and myth-making.
