THE UNKNOWN PEOPLE WHO MUMMIFIED THEIR DEAD BEFORE THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the enigmatic world of pre-Egyptian mummification, centered around the discovery of the Uan Muhuggiag mummy in Libya. The film compellingly questions the established narrative, presenting evidence that a sophisticated mummification tradition existed in North Africa long before the rise of ancient Egypt. Professor Savino di Lernia's expedition through the Sahara to uncover the origins of this practice is particularly engaging. The narrative explores potential cultural links, such as rock art depicting dog-headed figures and pottery decorations, suggesting a deeper connection between these ancient Saharan inhabitants and the later pharaonic civilization. It’s a visually rich exploration that prompts viewers to reconsider the cradle of ancient African culture and the sophisticated societies that thrived when the Sahara was a verdant savannah.
