THE UNDERAPPRECIATED WORLD OF DARK AGE ART

Cinemavixion Review

Waldemar Januszczak challenges the prevailing historical narrative that the "Dark Ages" were a period of decline following the Roman Empire's fall. In this compelling four-part series, he makes a passionate case for this era as a vibrant incubator of artistic innovation, fueled by the advent of new ideas and religions. Januszczak embarks on an ambitious global journey, traversing Europe, Africa, and Asia to explore renowned collections and unearth overlooked artistic treasures. His argument is clear: the so-called "Age of Darkness" was, in fact, a dynamic "Age of Light," brimming with creative energy and artistic adventure. This series offers a vital re-evaluation, inviting viewers to reconsider a misunderstood epoch and appreciate its often-hidden artistic legacy.
