THE TRUTH ABOUT BUSH'S WAR ON CRIME

Cinemavixion Review

Marcel Theroux's documentary, "The Truth About Bush's War On Crime," delves into the contentious "Texas Solution" implemented during George W. Bush's governorship. The film critically examines the state's drastic measures to combat high crime rates in the 1980s and early 90s, including tripling prison capacity, extending sentences, and curtailing parole. While acknowledging the reported halving of crime rates, Theroux probes the accompanying surge in incarceration and executions, questioning the true effectiveness and ethical implications of this get-tough approach. The documentary also explores the purported emphasis on rehabilitation and community involvement within this system, inviting viewers to consider whether the "Texas Solution" offers a viable model for justice reform or a cautionary tale of punitive excess.
