Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Forgotten Allies: The True Story of the Battle of Britain," offers a compelling new perspective on a pivotal moment in World War II. While the Battle of Britain is often mythologized as a straightforward aerial duel between British and German forces, this film delves into the vital contributions of a diverse array of allies, including Czech, Polish, and French pilots, as well as aircrew from across the Commonwealth. It highlights the harsh realities of the conflict, emphasizing the fatigue, mechanical failures, and tactical miscalculations that plagued both sides, resulting in immense casualties among airmen and civilians alike. Through newly discovered archive recordings, rare footage, and interviews with surviving aircraft and pilots, the documentary reconstructs the complex tapestry of nations that formed the RAF squadrons. It also sheds light on lesser-known aspects, such as the surprising involvement of the Italian Air Force, challenging conventional narratives and revealing the true, multifaceted nature of Britain's defense against the Luftwaffe.
