THE TRAGIC TRUE STORY OF WAR HORSE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a poignant and often heartbreaking look at the immense contribution of horses during the First World War. Through a blend of archival footage, personal accounts, and modern historical analysis, it vividly portrays the journey of over a million British horses, from their requisition from farms and estates to the brutal realities of the Western Front. The narrative highlights the dual roles these animals played: the iconic cavalry mounts, like the celebrated 'Warrior', and the unsung heavy horses vital for logistical support in the trenches. The film doesn't shy away from the tragic toll, detailing the quarter-million horses lost to injury and disease, while also celebrating the profound bond between soldiers and their equine companions that fostered resilience amidst the carnage. It’s a powerful tribute to these often-overlooked participants in history, culminating in their final, somber duties and the uncertain futures many faced after the armistice.
