THE SMURFS

Cinemavixion Review

This cinematic adaptation of the beloved Belgian comic characters, 'The Smurfs', brings the tiny blue creatures into the bustling heart of New York City. While the local data hints at various Smurf village escapades, the 2011 film, directed by Raja Gosnell, plunges them into an alien human world, pursued by the ever-persistent Gargamel, portrayed with cartoonish zeal by Hank Azaria. The plot, though simple, captures the essence of Smurf-brand chaos as they navigate the 'Big Apple' with Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays. Despite a lukewarm critical reception, evidenced by its modest Rotten Tomatoes score, the film offers a family-friendly adventure that, for many, serves as a nostalgic gateway to the Smurfs' enduring charm and their perpetual battle of wits against their nemesis.
