THE SMURFS

Cinemavixion Review

This adaptation brings the beloved blue sprites to the bustling heart of New York City. While the film captures the whimsical essence of the Smurfs and their perennial struggle against the bumbling sorcerer Gargamel, it offers a blend of live-action and animation that leans heavily into family-friendly antics. The narrative, centering on the Smurfs' unexpected displacement into Central Park, provides ample opportunity for comedic fish-out-of-water scenarios. Neil Patrick Harris and Hank Azaria deliver energetic performances as the human protagonists navigating the chaos. Though critical reception was mixed, the film serves as a colorful, if straightforward, adventure that introduces these classic characters to a new generation, emphasizing themes of friendship and finding home, even amidst the urban jungle.
