THE SERPENT'S TOOTH: INSIDE THE WORLD OF ESPIONAGE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary series, 'The Serpent's Tooth: Inside the World of Espionage,' offers a chilling and deeply personal look into the pervasive surveillance activities of ASIO, Australia's intelligence organization. Through the examination of declassified files and compelling personal testimonies from individuals like Roger Milliss, Michael Hyde, Gary Foley, and Frank Hardy, the series unveils the 'dirty war against dissent' waged for decades. It masterfully illustrates how ASIO's reach extended to ordinary citizens, including students, unionists, and activists, documenting their lives under intense government scrutiny. The use of actual surveillance footage and photographs adds a visceral layer to these narratives, making the historical context resonate powerfully with contemporary concerns about privacy and state power, especially in the wake of revelations like the Snowden NSA scandal. This timely series is a crucial contribution to the ongoing discourse on civil liberties and governmental oversight.
