THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS

Cinemavixion Review

In "The Secrets She Keeps," director Damián Romay crafts a taut thriller that explores the perilous landscape of online dating and the fierce protective instincts of a mother. The narrative centers on Amara, a 16-year-old who, driven by a desire for connection, misrepresents her age on a dating app to find a boyfriend named Shane. Her mother, Diane, naturally harbors reservations, which soon prove to be chillingly prescient. As Amara becomes entangled with Shane, the mother-daughter duo finds themselves targets of escalating stalking and harassment. The film excels when Diane begins to unravel Shane's dark past, revealing him to be a figure of significant danger. Zoe Cramond and Emily Miceli deliver compelling performances as the vulnerable daughter and the increasingly determined mother, respectively. While the film may not reinvent the genre, it effectively builds suspense and delivers a satisfying, albeit intense, resolution that underscores the lengths a mother will go to ensure her child's safety. A solid entry for fans of domestic thrillers.
