THE SECRETS OF THE FARM | EXTRAORDINARY HIDDEN LIVES

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "The Secrets of the Farm | Extraordinary Hidden Lives," from 2019, challenges common misconceptions and superstitions surrounding familiar farm animals. Directed by Dominique Hennequin and narrated by David Tudor, the film uses a blend of wildlife footage and animation, featuring artwork by John Howe (known for his work on 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'), to reveal the often-overlooked and extraordinary lives of creatures like barn owls, magpies, and farm cats. It argues that centuries of folklore have unfairly demonized these species, associating them with negative beliefs and treating them as pests. The series aims to shift perspectives by presenting the reality of their ecological roles and natural beauty, encouraging viewers to look beyond outdated legends and appreciate these animals for their true place in nature.
