THE SECRET LIVES OF THE MAHARAJAHS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the opulent lives of Maharajahs in Rajasthan, 'The Land of Kings,' exploring the stark contrast between their ceremonial splendor and the widespread inequality and poverty in India. It highlights the enduring prestige and traditions of these royal families, where commoners still show profound respect, often bordering on submission, to their princes. The film captures the extravagant week-long wedding ceremony of Danenjay Singh, heir to the Khimsar throne, emphasizing the arranged nature of royal marriages where the groom may not have met his bride before the ceremony. We also meet Laksharaj Singh, who manages his inherited luxury hotel business across ten converted palaces, and 13-year-old Padmanabh, heir to a vast fortune, offering a glimpse into the immense wealth and responsibilities these young royals face, even as they sometimes yearn for a more ordinary existence.
