THE SECRET LIVES OF DORKS

Cinemavixion Review

In "The Secret Lives of Dorks," director Salomé Breziner crafts a coming-of-age comedy that delves into the awkward world of high school social hierarchies. The film, released in 2013, stars Gaelan Connell as Payton, a self-proclaimed "pathetic dork" whose existence is a series of embarrassing missteps. His life takes a turn when he becomes entangled in a complex web of unrequited affections, with Payton pining for the cheerleader Carrie, who in turn is attempting to set him up with Samantha, another dork. The narrative cleverly navigates Payton's journey from social isolation to utter disaster, punctuated by comedic mishaps. While the film received a modest rating of 5.0/10 on IMDb and a critical reception of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, it offers a relatable portrayal of adolescent yearning and the often-hilarious struggles of fitting in. The ensemble cast, including Beau Mirchoff, William Katt, and Jennifer Tilly, adds depth to this endearing, albeit flawed, exploration of teenage life.
