THE SEARCH FOR THE ROMAN'S FIRST BRITISH FORT

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary from the Kent Archaeological Field School delves into a potentially groundbreaking discovery at Syndale, Kent. The excavation unearthed an intriguing 'ankle-breaker ditch,' a military fortification technique suggesting a Roman presence. The narrative skillfully posits whether this site could be the very first Roman fort established in Britain, dating back to the Claudian invasion of 43 AD. Situated along a likely Roman route towards the Thames, the find raises compelling questions about the initial Roman military strategy and settlement patterns in Britain. The exploration of this potential historical nexus offers a fascinating glimpse into archaeological investigation and the enduring echoes of Roman Britain.
