In 'The Gunman from Bodie,' a 1941 Western, the iconic trio of Buck Jones, Tim McCoy, and Raymond Hatton, operating under the moniker 'The Rough Riders,' deliver a familiar yet engaging tale. Directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet, the narrative sees Buck Jones adopting the guise of a wanted outlaw and Tim McCoy a cook, a clever ruse to infiltrate and dismantle a ruthless criminal operation. Their mission: to protect local ranchers from a villain intent on seizing control of the area's vital water rights, while also taking on the responsibility of caring for an orphaned infant. The plot thickens as the Marshals are also pursuing a gang of rustlers, with Marshal Roberts himself going undercover as a wanted outlaw, accompanied by McCall, who is ostensibly pursuing him, and Sandy assisting as a cook. Roberts' daring plan hinges on his integration into the outlaw gang to facilitate their capture. While perhaps not groundbreaking, the film offers a solid dose of Western action and character dynamics, typical of the era, with the seasoned leads providing a reliable presence.
