THE ROMANS: THE RISE & FALL OF THE GREATEST WARRIORS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a compelling look into the formidable Roman army, the bedrock of an empire that shaped Western civilization for millennia. It meticulously details the evolution of the legions, from citizen conscripts in the Republic to the seasoned professionals of Caesar's era, whose conquests, particularly in Gaul, are highlighted. The film also sheds light on the crucial role of auxiliary troops, often drawn from conquered peoples, who served with distinction to earn Roman citizenship. The narrative extends into the Imperial period, exploring the army's adaptations and the eventual challenges posed by Germanic tribes, whose unique fighting style and homeland tactics proved a significant hurdle. Ultimately, the documentary illustrates how the very forces that Rome trained and influenced would contribute to its eventual decline, providing a nuanced perspective on the rise and fall of these ancient warriors.
