"The River King" plunges into the murky depths of elite academia, presenting a compelling murder mystery where the veneer of prestige conceals darker secrets. Edward Burns anchors the film as a determined detective, delving into the suspicious death of a student. While the local data hints at a hazing gone awry, the external data expands this, revealing a narrative rich with atmosphere, exploring themes of bullying and institutional cover-ups. The film masterfully builds suspense, drawing the viewer into the investigation alongside Burns's character. Its exploration of the pressures within exclusive environments and the lengths to which people will go to protect reputations makes for a thought-provoking watch. "The River King" is a solid entry into the thriller genre, offering a satisfyingly intricate plot and a strong central performance.
