THE RIVER AND THE WALL

Cinemavixion Review

“The River and the Wall” is a profoundly moving documentary that transcends its subject matter to offer a vital exploration of the American borderlands. Following five friends on an ambitious 1,200-mile expedition by bike, horse, and canoe, director Ben Masters captures the stark beauty and complex realities of the Rio Grande. The film masterfully balances breathtaking cinematography of the diverse landscapes with intimate encounters, featuring conversations with border patrol agents, wildlife biologists, and local landowners, including Congressman Beto O'Rourke and Will Hurd. What begins as an environmental and logistical inquiry into the proposed border wall evolves into a poignant examination of the human element of immigration. This award-winning film, lauded with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is a vital and timely piece that urges viewers to look beyond the political rhetoric and witness the shared territory and the lives intertwined within it.
