THE RISKY WORLD OF HARDCORE BINGO

Cinemavixion Review

In "The Risky World of Hardcore Bingo," director Jackpots invites viewers into a surprisingly engrossing universe where chance, superstition, and sheer human will collide. This documentary peels back the veneer of a simple game to reveal profound truths about luck, determination, and the enduring hope for victory. We are introduced to devoted players, like the remarkable 91-year-old Margaret Miller, whose weekly ritual at a Toronto Bingo Hall underscores a deep commitment that transcends the game itself. The film masterfully explores how, for some, Bingo is not merely a pastime but a lifeline, a means to manage daily expenses or simply the reason to face another day. Beyond the flashing lights and calls of numbers, the documentary thoughtfully examines the human need to believe that triumph is attainable, even when perpetually just a number away. It's a poignant look at the dedication and personal stakes embedded in the pursuit of a win.
