THE PROTECTORS

Cinemavixion Review

In "The Protectors," director Ben Hughes crafts a compelling narrative centered on Michael Matthews, a young man discovering his alien heritage and nascent superpowers. The film excels in its depiction of Matthews, portrayed with a grounded vulnerability by Chris Abbey Jr., as he grapples with his identity while joining a local collective of vigilantes. The ensemble cast, including Gabriel Kamas and Chris Massoglia, effectively embodies the struggles of these protectors, lending a relatable grit to their fight against urban threats. While the film explores familiar superhero tropes, its strength lies in its focus on community and the personal cost of wielding extraordinary abilities. The visually engaging action sequences are complemented by a narrative that questions the true meaning of protection in a world often overwhelmed by its own complexities, making "The Protectors" a noteworthy entry in the genre.
