THE PROBABLY MOST UNPOPULAR GARDEN DWELLER

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of the mole, an often-maligned inhabitant of our gardens. Through meticulously captured under- and overground cinematography, the film challenges our preconceived notions of this creature, revealing an animal that, while widely recognized, remains largely unseen. We are taken on a journey through the mole's intricate subterranean world, exploring its living spaces, from sleeping chambers to pantries, and its labyrinthine tunnel networks. The narrative thoughtfully contrasts the gardener's frustration with the mole's ubiquitous hills against the complex reality of its existence, prompting a re-evaluation of our relationship with this industrious, yet frequently misunderstood, garden dweller. The 2018 production, directed by Joachim Hinz and featuring Dan Wesker, provides an educational and visually engaging perspective on a creature often relegated to the realm of pests.
