THE PRIVATE LIVES OF THE HABSBURG RULERS | AUSTRIAN MONARCHY

Cinemavixion Review

This Heritage Austria production offers a fascinating glimpse into the personal lives of the Habsburg dynasty through the eyes of three influential women. The film cleverly interweaves the narratives of Carolina Countess Fuchs-Mollard, a confidante of Empress Maria Theresa; Katharina Schratt, a friend to Emperor Franz Joseph; and Archduchess Elisabeth, daughter of Crown Prince Rudolf and later a women's rights advocate known as "red Erzsi". The actresses Petra Morzé, Stephanie Schmiderer, and Gigga Neunteufel embody these historical figures with gravitas, portraying them at pivotal moments—the birth of Joseph II, the aftermath of Empress Elisabeth's assassination, and the founding of the First Republic. Each biography serves as a unique keyhole, revealing intimate details about the ruling family's private world, making for a compelling historical portrait.
