THE PRINCES OF SALM SALM | GERMAN DYNASTIES

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a glimpse into the historic moated castle of Anholt and the lives of the princely Salm-Salm family. Directed by Julia Melchior, the film, released in 2014, presents a narrative centered around the family's deep connection to the region near the German-Dutch border. Host Carl Philipp Prince zu Salm-Salm guides viewers through the castle's transformation from a medieval fortress to a baroque residence around 1700, detailing its acquisition by his family. The description highlights the family's significant role in the community, exemplified by the attendance of the entire municipality at Prince Carl Philipp's 80th birthday celebration in May 2013. While the film touches upon dynastic history and the enduring legacy of the Salm-Salm family, its focus remains intimate, set against a picturesque wintry backdrop within the castle's walls.
