THE PRINCES OF SALM-SALM | CASTLES IN GERMANY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Princes of Salm-Salm, focusing on their ancestral home, the Anholt moated castle. Directed by Julia Melchior, the film takes viewers on a journey through the castle's rich history, from its medieval origins to its transformation into a baroque residence around 1700 when it became the property of the Salm-Salm family. The narrative highlights the family's deep connection to the region near the German-Dutch border and their significant role in the local community, as evidenced by the large public celebration of Prince Carl Philipp's 80th birthday in 2013. The wintry setting adds a picturesque backdrop to this exploration of aristocracy, history, and regional heritage.
